I joined PL Projects as a fresh-faced and keen graduate looking to begin climbing the project management ladder. I was more than happy to join a small, fast growing company which, at its roots, is a combination of experienced professionals and academics delivering excellent services to clients. My time at PLP has more than served me well – developing me into FTSE 250 companies and UK’s largest Bus and Coach manufacturer, enabling me to gain a breath of knowledge in multiple industries on challenging programmes, whilst being supported every step of the way. This exposure to and investment in my development has allowed me to learn faster, challenge myself and ultimately take me on a far steeper development curve than I would have encountered elsewhere. I now take on challenges within the profession, equipped with this experience and the tools to maintain PLP’s reputation.
The most valuable factor of working for PLP is the people and the support they provide – all I can say is that they are more like friends than employers, which has helped to form strong bonds of trust and transparency. I know I can speak freely about my concerns or issues, be it professional or personal. One thing I won’t forget is when I was buying my first house and needed some advice from (ex-builder) Mike Bates. He went out of his way to come to view it, crawling in any accessible nook and cranny for over 2 hours. This goes for above what I would expect from an employer.
Even though it is a small-size business, I have had the ability to grow within the company. I really enjoy the small atmosphere of PLP, while being able to work for large clients. The company has a family friendly atmosphere that is great to work in.
The best thing about working for PLP is the great working environment that is created by the perfect balance of work and play. This has allowed me to not only grow as a professional but as an individual.
